12:59p Changed the look
I wanted something that would show that we're moving towards autumn. The pink/green theme I had is lovely, but too spring/summer.
Bread is always warm and comforting. :-)

12:41p Grey day
Which is a good thing, because it's cooler and rainy. :-)
Cat'r isn't coming up this weekend, though. :-( He's got a cold or something like.
Bunnicula has gone downtown in search of more pulp magazines (he's collecting) at the used bookstore. He's also going to pick up some Diamine ink for us and some books from the library for me.
I haven't decided if I want to dive in "Endless Ocean" (it's BEEN a while) or read or what. Maybe rip some more CDs, then knit and listen to music on my iPod.

2:23p "Mad Men" Marathon
Well, a mini-marathon. Two days ago Bunnicula and I watched 4 episodes from Season One; yesterday we watched the last three episodes and completed Season One.
Today we will probably (I HOPE) watch the first two episodes from Season Two (this season).
Fascinating series! I did find one anachronism, though (and this series is usually so careful about being faithful to the times): when Don's wife, Betty, is having the uh, experience with the washing machine and the fantasy about the air-conditioning guy, the music playing is "Agua De Beber" by Brasil '66. The year in the series at that point is 1960. That song/album was not released until 1966. I know--I bought it. ::grin::

8:53a Bible stuff
I wrote to The General Secretary of the Anglican General Synod of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia a couple days ago, asking for a Bible recommendation. This was because I found the language in A New Zealand Prayer Book more helpful than anything I've read in years and years and years. I thought that whatever Bible(s) they had used might help me.
She wrote me back a very nice letter with Bible recommendations. The one she's recommending I look at first is The New Living Translation.
So I am trying to (gently) twist Cat'r's arm to take me to the nearby Family Christian Store (which has a good selection of Bibles) this coming weekend. Cat'r can chill out and read and have a frappuccino at the Starbucks around the corner while Bunnicula and I go to the Xian store.
I wonder whatever happened to my old Living Bible from the 70's that looked vaguely psychedelic and oh-so-70's. Maybe it's in a box in the walk-in closet. I'll ask Bunnicula to look later. But it's still not THE translation I want now.
I have a lot of Bibles, lots of translations, but none of them is making sense to me at the moment. I'm hoping The New Living Translation will help.

1:44p Stuff!
Today, so far, pens and inks have arrived! I got a Lamy Joy calligraphy set, a couple nice Hero pens, a Pilot fountain pen, and a pen wrap. Also I got a bottle of Diamine Sapphire Blue ink, a bottle of Diamine Grey ink, and a bottle of Sailor "Jentle" ink, Red-Brown.
I also got another Hayley Westenra CD, this one called "Prayer". It was a better deal to get it from CDJapan than from amazon.com. I am collecting everything (well, CDs and DVDs) I can get that has Hayley Westenra. I just love her voice!
Oh, more on ink: Bunnicula went downtown to go to the used bookstore, and he stopped by a little office supply place while he was down there. He scored one pack of Waterman green ink cartridges and two packs of Waterman purple ink cartridges. Yay!
More stuff coming when the UPS person shows up!

11:15p Missing schools
There *is* some kind of building on the site where my elementary school was, I just can't figure out what it is. Google Earth has not gotten there so far with their photography.
I just remembered: my sister's elementary school is also gone. What is there now is Fresh Market and a CVS Pharmacy. So I guess she would understand that feeling of "It's GONE?!?".

10:36p Where did it go??
I was touring around in Google Earth, first looking at homes I've lived in, then looking at the first church I ever went to (it's still there!). Then I tried to find my elementary school.
It looks like it was razed. I mean...there is nothing there! I tried googling for info about it, and I'm getting nowhere. The public library nearby is still there and looks great! I know there were lots of changes in that neighbourhood; but that was a huge school building, brick, three stories high, with outbuildings, and a secondary older brick building that used to be for grades 7 and 8, long long ago. My brother went there, then directly to high school. I went to the elementary school, then to the brand-new shiny junior high school, then on to the same high school where my brother had gone.
My sister had warned me that houses we had lived in would look so tiny, when in memory they seemed larger. She was right. But I didn't expect a huge school to be totally gone.
I need to search more when I am not tired.

5:44p September 1st!
I'm glad we're out of August now, even if the temperatures don't think so! (it's 94*F. now, at 5:36pm)
The Riverfest Fireworks was/were beautiful last night! And the telecast of it was really good, for a change! Just nice wide views of the sky and fireworks, no annoying panning away to the crowd or other things. The music wasn't half-bad this time (sometimes WEBN-FM gets really choppy on their selections).
I've been checking the news about Hurricane Gustav every now and again. Hard to tell how things are going. Probably not as bad as Katrina though!
Nice relaxing day. We've played some games. Cat'r and I watched the movie "Wuthering Heights" (1939--Merle Oberon, Laurence Olivier, David Niven). Now we're going to (re)read the book. The guys are eating hot dogs and watching "Stargate: SG-1". I'm online for the first time today.

10:56a Yay! Last day of August!
This evening will be the Riverfest Fireworks down on the river, but televised and broadcast on the radio too. So we'll be watching as usual. This is considered the unofficial end of summer. :-)
Nice morning. Cat'r and I listened to some music. Then the guys went out grocery shopping.
We'll probably be playing some games later. We played a lot of little crazy dice games last night that Bunnicula had bought last weekend. :-) Like Moose Spotting. heh.
Seriously: keep thinking good thoughts to the people and whole area of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. The Tampa Bay area has been getting "feeder bands" of rain from Hurricane Gustav: sunny and bright, then torrential rain for about five minutes, then clearing and sun, then more short bursts of rain, etc.
